Associated Humane Societies (AHS) rescues stray and homeless animals—both domestic and wild—providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, AHS also offers low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.

The Challenge
Coming off a year of strong engagement, AHS wanted to carry that fundraising momentum into their year-end campaign. With a growing community of supporters and an appetite for creative outreach, the goal was to find a fresh, compelling format that would not only inspire continued generosity but also deepen the connection between donors and the animals they help. We needed an approach that would break through the seasonal noise, stand out to donors, and clearly demonstrate the real impact of their support.

Our Strategy
During our brainstorming sessions, the idea of a “gift catalog” format quickly rose to the top. This approach would allow donors to see exactly what their contributions could provide—from medical supplies to food and shelter for animals in need. AHS had tested a similar idea the previous year through an online initiative called the Compassion Catalog, which laid the groundwork for expanding the concept.
We collaborated on a multi-channel strategy that brought the campaign to life through both digital and direct mail efforts. The print component was designed to reach AHS’s current donor base and attract new supporters by highlighting the real-world outcomes of their generosity.

The Results
This campaign proved to be one of the most successful of the year. By adding a direct mail component to the previously digital-only format, the campaign raised $74,000 more than the prior year—an astounding 1,649% increase in revenue.
Beyond the numbers, donors responded with overwhelmingly positive feedback. Many expressed how impactful it was to see the direct results of their giving and appreciated the opportunity to support specific, meaningful needs of the animals.
